Allegany County Reforestation Project-Spring 2020

Western Maryland RC&D has received a grant from the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund to re-establish native forests on 128 acres of private land in Allegany County, Maryland, including 15,705 linear feet of riparian buffer, 59.1 acres of agricultural land, and 24.9 acres of previously mined areas.This project seeks to address the water quality of the maintstem of the Chesapeake Bay by reducing non-point source pollution, namely nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment.

 

This project is located on 8 private counties situated across Allegany County, Maryland. The above map provides a visual representation of how the plantings sites are dispersed throughout the county.
