Baker Park Stream
Stabilization Project - Frederick County
After
years of development surrounding Baker Park, located within the corporate limits
of the City of Frederick, Carroll Creek, which winds through the park, showed
signs of degradation and stress. This highly used and popular city park
was chosen to receive funding for bioengineering practices in order to mitigate
the damage done to approximately 4,800 lineal feet of Carroll Creek.
Working with representatives of the Division of Streets and Grounds for the City
of Frederick, the Potomac Conservancy, the Maryland Department of Natural
Resources and other organizations, the WMRC&D Council awarded the design
contract to Loiderman Soltesz Associates, Inc. and the construction contract to
Angler Environmental, Inc. Funding was secured from the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, the Chesapeake Bay Trust and the Fish America Foundation.
The
bioengineering techniques used in conjunction with live stakes and tree
plantings helped to restore beauty and continuity to the stream for all users of
the park and this highly successful project.
